We run a successful Fire Reserve Program for children ages 14 – 17. The programs’ goal is to acquaint the children with fire fighting. As Reserves, the kids learn about the history of the Fire Department and the techniques and procedures involving fire fighting, fire apparatus, and in using the various tools. All training takes place in the classroom and in the field (“Hands On Training”). All of the training provides the Fire Reserves with a sense of teamwork, community awareness, and volunteerism. This program has been in place for 40+ years. When the Reserve turns 18, he or she can then submit an application to become a regular member of the Fire Department.
The Fire Reserve program has been proven to be a vital part of the Park Ridge Fire Department. The program has produced several members that have served the Department for many years and several who have risen to serve as Chief of the Department.
